Mendix at Anamata: MX001 has Landed

About me

My name is Emiel Joosten, a Mendix consultant at Anamata. I am 28 years old and living in the center of the Netherlands. I like to play volleyball, squash, badminton. And when the weather allows it, I love to cruise around town on my longboard.

Also, I love online games (League of Legends mainly), Switch-games and board games. I love driving in my car and spending time with my girlfriend, my friends and family.

That's me!

I am really passionate about improving the quality throughout the process of Mendix projects; this is something I want to focus on in the coming years.

Career

As a head start of my career, I followed a Mendix traineeship at CLEVR (Mansystems) where I learned the basics of the Mendix tooling. After 1,5 years, I started working at Valori where I learned the ins and outs of quality assurance, testing and test automation. During my time at Valori, I was still interested in Mendix and I started setting up a Mendix chapter. I received my Mendix Advanced Developer certificate and defined a vision on Mendix testing & QA.

After 2 years, I started working at Valcon (First Consulting) as a Mendix developer. Here I worked for 2 big clients: ProRail and NS. These projects were completely different from each other, so I learned a lot more about the possibilities and the do’s & don’ts of Mendix. As a result, one of these learnings as a Mendix developer was that quality needs continuous optimization through the full delivery process. As a first step, I initiated a QA and Testing guild where we exchanged experiences and ideas about quality on different tools and we started with some test automation.

I am really passionate about improving the quality throughout the process of Mendix projects; this is something I want to focus on in the coming years.

Why I joined Anamata

A few months after Peter and Bas founded Anamata, Bas reached out to me to catch up. He told me that they really wanted me to join their team and help to expand the Mendix business unit at Anamata. After I talked with the team, I decided to board the plane to a yet unknown destination.

Reasons to join Anamata

I will give you the reasons why I decided to join Anamata, next to the great salary & benefits:

  • Anamata is currently still a quite small company (10-ish employees), but it strives to have a flat-structured non-hierarchical structure along its growth. This means that you still have a big impact on the future of the company and on the culture. Every employee is part of shaping Anamata. Continuously.
  • The concept of the M-shaped Anamateer. You will be more than ‘just’ a Mendix developer at Anamata; Anamata wants you to grow in other areas such as business analysis, project management, java programming, UI/UX, etc. Anamateers are developing themselves to become a M-shaped consultant.
  • You can help Anamata based on what you want to do/learn/achieve. You can help with marketing, recruitment, organize events, trainings, etc.
  • The team you will work with are all smart, fun and respectable people. All of the other employees who work at Anamata have not only been chosen for their talent, but also for their personalities.
  • The ‘serious fun’ core value of Anamata; taking your job and responsibilities seriously, while also having a lot of fun. Next to the serious work we do, Anamata organizes regular events and meetings which are informative but also have a big fun aspect.
  • Anamata’s culture, represented by the Māori culture; care for nature, (international) traveling, family, hospitality and respect. Anamata is Māori for ‘Visions of the future’.

Where I am heading

As MX001, one of my goals is to help create an amazing team with whom I will conquer the Mendix World using our own unique vision and strategy. To achieve this, I need to increase some entrepreneurship skills of my own. I am really excited and curious to learn more about this and celebrate the successes and failures together with the team. I am sure I will learn a lot about myself and about expanding the company. To learn a bit more about Anamata’s Mendix vision, please visit our Mendix page.

At first, I start working fulltime as a Mendix Consultant for PostNL. I am working in the big Mendix application landscape and I am sure I will have a great impact on the development and quality of the projects. To be continued…

Secondly, I am aiming to help Anamata to create a first class Mendix team. I want to help building a team of smart, fun, enthusiastic consultants who want to change the way apps are delivered. Consultants with a passion and a dream, who want to change this together.
