HomeZero was founded in 2022 by Mike Out, Rens Hagen, and Hunter Koppen. With their white-label sustainability platform, companies can assist their customers, citizens, or employees in taking a step towards sustainability. This sustainability platform is built using Mendix. With various clients, including ANWB, HomeZero is well on its way to transitioning from a startup to a scale-up. With Hunter Koppen – Mendix MVP – as CTO, HomeZero has an experienced lead developer on board, enabling them to fully leverage the power of the Mendix platform.
Anamata & HomeZero
Since the summer of 2023, Anamata and HomeZero started a collaboration. Anamata provides Mendix specialists to assist in the further development of the platform. Mike Out, CEO of HomeZero, says, “We are growing rapidly and continuously improving and innovating the platform. Hunter, our lead developer, knows everything about Mendix and the platform as an MVP. Manon Kovács, a Mendix specialist at Anamata, has been involved in developing the HomeZero platform since October 2023. “At HomeZero, I was able to further develop myself as an all-round Mendix specialist. While I could grow as a Mendix developer on one hand, I could also leverage my years of knowledge and experience in testing and test automation to assist this startup,” says Manon.
M-Shaped: a valuable addition
Anamata offers a unique proposition in the Low-code market with its M-shaped specialists. These specialists stand out because they not only possess knowledge of Mendix development but also have extensive knowledge of other aspects necessary for delivering applications to customers. Mike states, “The specialists at Anamata have broad expertise, including agile working, requirements engineering, and testing. For HomeZero, it’s very valuable to have the involvement of Anamata’s specialists because we don’t have the opportunity to have an in-house specialist for every aspect.”
As a Mendix MVP, Hunter has extensive experience in application development using Mendix and recognizes the pitfalls. “Every now and then, I tend to dive too much into the technical details and forget about the other aspects that are needed to ensure successful software delivery. It’s reassuring to have someone like Manon on the team; she keeps us focused, asks critical questions, and makes sure that we don’t lose sight of the bigger picture.”

A glimpse into the future
HomeZero has ambitious growth plans for the coming years and hopes to have laid a solid foundation for growth through its collaboration with Anamata. “No matter who you talk to at Anamata, the conversations are always open, transparent, enjoyable, but also sharp. This keeps both of us alert and focused. I am confident that we have a good foundation for a long-term partnership.”
Manon is also looking forward to the next steps. “Over the past few months, we have worked hard to establish a strong foundation for both HomeZero and myself, which we hopefully will enjoy for a long time.”
